We have always known that bespoke LED displays were the best option for many businesses, but they have just gone up a level.
Samsung is now offering movie screens made from LED displays, potentially harking the end of the projector for cinema screens.
The Samsung cinema screen was launched in Vegas in March this year and marks the beginning of a move to digital screens in cinemas everywhere.
The screens they are producing are smaller than many cinema screens, which are often 45 to 72 feet. The screen they unveiled in Lotte Cinema World Tower in South Korea last week is just 10.3 metres, though it supports 4K (4,096 x 2,160) resolution and HDR visuals.
“Through sharper and more realistic colours, complementary audio, and an elevated presentation, our Cinema LED Screen makes viewers feel as if they are part of the picture,” said HS Kim, president of visual display business at Samsung told Venturebeat.
The move to LED displays in cinemas is something of a breakthrough as cinema takings have fallen sharply in recent years as they have been overshadowed by home entertainment systems and on demand options, such as Netflix.
This may not be surprising considering the cost of cinema tickets has risen much faster than inflation over the past decade, with the rise in ticket prices being one of the notable price rises following the credit crunch.
